Steel structure maintenance in industrial plants

Repair welding of a steel structure

Well-maintained steel lasts generations; neglected, it degrades silently until one day it is urgent. A simple inspection routine prevents 90% of the scares. At Indumor, besides fabricating, we repair and reinforce existing structures — this is what we look at.

Your structure’s 4 enemies

  • Corrosion: starts where water sits and paint left — column bases, connections, clogged gutters.
  • Impacts: forklifts against columns: a dent today, buckling tomorrow.
  • Unplanned loads: the new equipment hung "wherever it fit", the extra racking on the mezzanine.
  • Vibration: loosens bolts and cracks welds over the years, especially near machinery.

The annual inspection (half a day worth gold)

Walk it with a trained eye: active rust (blisters, flakes), loose or missing bolts, weld cracks (cracked paint over them gives them away), visible deformation, column bases and anchors. Photograph and compare year over year.

Paint: repairing early costs 10x less

Touch-up over early rust is sanding, primer and enamel. The same area left 5 years is blasting or member replacement. The right finish from day one stretches all these intervals.

When to call a fabricator

A struck column, a beam with visible sag, a cracked welded connection, or new loads to hang: that calls for structural judgment. We fabricate reinforcements, replace members and weld on site with the shortest possible downtime.
