HEB beam table: dimensions, weight and properties

Updated November 2, 2026  ·  Indumor

HEB section with dimensions: depth h, flange width b, thicknesses tw and tf, root radius r, plus a side view of one meter of bar

A 12-meter bar of HEB 600 weighs more than 2.5 tonnes. An HEB 100 of the same length weighs 245 kilograms. They belong to one family: wide-flange sections made for columns and for heavy loads in little depth.

Weight calculator

Three traits of the series

  1. Up to 300 it is square. From HEB 100 to 300, depth and width match: an HEB 200 measures 200 × 200. Beyond that the flange stays at 300 mm and only the depth grows.
  2. It works on both axes. For the HEB 200, strong-axis inertia is less than three times the weak-axis one. On an IPE 360 of similar weight it is more than fifteen times. That is why the HEB is a column section: it takes far longer to buckle.
  3. As a beam it costs you. That same IPE 360 weighs 57.1 kg/m with a section modulus of 904 cm³; the HEB 200 weighs 61.3 and reaches 570. It pays off when depth is short, and there nothing else comes close. With depth to spare, you are hanging money from the ceiling.

Older drawings call it IPB, after the German standards that named it “wide I-beam,” and many Argentine catalogs list it as “medium Grey,” after Henry Grey of the universal mill. It is sold in 12 m bars, usually in F-24, and distributors tend to list it among imported sections: confirm the size before committing to a deadline.

On site, when you run into a wide-flange column, measure depth and width. If they match, up to 300, it is an HEB; if the depth is a bit less than the width, an HEA. For beams, see the IPE beam table too. To try a column before buying it, the steel building tool in our Suite checks it. Indumor delivers them cut and with their plates.
