Solar mounting structures

Solar panels mounted on the metal roof of an industrial building

Twenty-five years out in the weather

High noon in January at a solar farm in the southern summer. The sun beats down on rows of panels that run out of sight, the wind pushes on every row as if it were a sail, and a storm building on the horizon may bring hail. Nobody who signed off on the project is there to see it, but the structure will take all of it, every day, for twenty-five years. That is why it is so striking that the panel gets chosen with a magnifying glass and the racking, too often, on price.

At Indumor we fabricate fixed mounting structures for ground and industrial roofs, in hot-dip galvanized steel. We work as a supplier to installers: you design the farm or the system, we fabricate the racking in series, with deliveries that keep pace with your construction schedule.

Quote a structure

Ground mount or roof mount

Verdict: if you have a sound industrial roof and the load is underneath it, start with the roof; if you need more capacity than the roof can give, or the roof cannot carry it, go to the ground. And if the project calls for something else, we also build custom solutions.

For an installer, what matters most is not the price per pound: it is that the structure arrives complete, in the order it gets assembled, with no parts that need fixing in the field. A crew standing around waiting for one member costs a lot more than the member.

How we build it

Hot-dip galvanizing

It coats the entire part, edges and holes included, and it is the finish that keeps pace with the service life of the panel.

Repeatable CNC cutting

Cold-formed sections and laser-cut gussets: part one thousand is identical to the first, and the holes land where they should.

Labeled kits

Every part leaves the shop labeled and kits are packed by sector of the site, so the crew does not waste time searching.

Bolted assembly

On site everything gets bolted, with no welding and no drilling. That is designed in from the drawing.

In the shop we deal with it before the part ever reaches the site: every cut and every hole is made before galvanizing, never after, and the part leaves ready to bolt. Never weld a galvanized structure in the field: the heat burns off the zinc right at the joint and leaves bare steel at the most stressed point.

What we need to quote it

  • The project engineering: we fabricate to the installer's or EPC's drawings.
  • Panel: model, dimensions and quantity.
  • Mounting type: driven piles, footings, or roof, with the roof sheeting type and purlin spacing.
  • Delivery schedule, by phase or by sector of the site.
  • Delivery location.

Frequently asked questions

Because the structure has to last as long as the panel: twenty-five years of wind, hail and sun. Hot-dip galvanizing coats the entire part, edges and holes included, and keeps pace with that service life without depending on repainting.
The farm is designed by the installer or the EPC. We fabricate the structure in series to that engineering, with deliveries that keep pace with the construction schedule.
Yes. The racking adapts to the roof sheeting and spreads the load over the purlins. If the roof has no reserve capacity for the load, we also handle the reinforcement.
No. The parts arrive cut, drilled and labeled, and get bolted. Welding on site ruins the galvanizing.

In one sentence: hot-dip galvanizing, CNC cutting and bolted assembly, so the structure lasts as long as the panel.
